Two weeks down

This trip has been an incredible growing experience. Because we are not traveling with an organization, we have to make things happen as the Lord calls. This is very challenging. We have to contact people to stay with, organizations to volunteer with and film; decide what we will eat, when we will wake up or go to bed, or what to do that day, etc. Everything is up to us — just like in real life. There is no hill-top experience like you usually have at Christian camps or conferences; no one to entertain — just us and the Lord.

I did not expect this. I thought that once we left we would be different people and leave all of our baggage behind. Yes, we have left a lot of it behind… but we are still carrying much un-needed baggage, metaphorically and literally! But I am still seeing a lot of change in my heart as well as the others in our group.  For the most part, we have no choice but to trust the Lord — especially with who to stay with and where to go.

People we have stayed with have been so generous. While we were in Pittsburgh we had no place to stay, so the Lord provided a hostel for us to stay in above a church. Our friends in New York took time to tour us around the city, and let us sleep on their floors in their small, New York-sized apartments. In Indiana and Virginia we got to stay with families who provided places to sleep and even let us do laundry and cooked for us. And right now, we are staying with a wonderful family in South Carolina. We are so thankful!

One thing I am really learning is to live in the moment. For the most part, time seems slower. However, looking back to when we started, it has gone by fast. But we are all getting a break from worry about the past or future. Thank God! This is such a gift. Every moment counts. Every person counts. Ministry is now. It is the person in front of you today, right now.
